Yes — and for many women, it’s the missing piece of the puzzle.
One of the most common things I hear is: “My laser removed almost everything… but these stubborn white hairs are still there.” The first thing I tell them is that nothing went wrong.
Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment inside the hair. Dark hairs contain plenty of pigment, so the laser can find them and permanently damage the follicle. White and gray hairs have lost that pigment, which means there isn’t enough pigment for the laser to recognize. It simply passes over them.
That’s where electrolysis becomes so valuable. Unlike laser, electrolysis doesn’t depend on hair color. Every hair is treated individually by placing a tiny probe into the natural opening of the follicle and delivering a controlled electrical current. Whether the hair is black, brown, blonde, gray, or completely white doesn’t matter. The treatment works because it’s targeting the follicle itself, not the pigment inside the hair.
After more than forty years treating hormonal facial hair, menopause-related hair, and PCOS, I’ve found that many women eventually benefit from both treatments. Laser efficiently removes the dark hairs, while electrolysis permanently removes the white and gray hairs that laser will never be able to treat.
