Why Laser Hair Removal Didn’t Work for My PCOS Facial Hair
I hear this every week. “I did laser and it did not work.” Here is what is really going on.
Reason 1: It was not a real laser
Many places sell IPL as laser. An IPL costs a few thousand dollars and a real laser costs well over a hundred thousand. On dark skin, IPL can burn you or do nothing. For Black and dark skin, the right machine is the Nd:YAG.
Reason 2: Not enough sessions
Only a small part of your hair, around 7 to 10 percent, is in the stage where laser can destroy it. That is why you need many sessions. With PCOS, endometriosis or insulin resistance, you may need many more, because new hairs keep waking up.
Reason 3: The hormones were never treated
Think of hormones as fertilizer for the hair follicles. Stop the fertilizer first. See an endocrinologist, and ask for free testosterone and androgen tests. Medicine only stops new hairs from waking up. The hair that is already there still needs laser, if it is dark.
White, blonde or gray hair: laser cannot see it. White is not a color. That needs electrolysis.
This is what I have learned in 40 years of treating women. It is my experience, not a replacement for your doctor. If you are worried, go and be seen.
