Body Contouring

I’m always honest with clients about what this can and can’t do — it’s a refinement tool, not a transformation shortcut, and I’d rather set that expectation clearly than oversell it.

Fat cells and skin cells respond to cold very differently. This entire treatment exists because of that one fact.

What It Is, and How Cryolipolysis Actually Works

Cryolipolysis — controlled cooling — is built on a specific biological observation: fat cells are more sensitive to cold injury than the skin cells and other tissue surrounding them. When a treatment area is cooled to a precise, controlled temperature, fat cells in that area undergo a natural, programmed cell-death process called apoptosis, while skin, nerves, and other structures are left largely unaffected because they can tolerate that temperature range without the same injury. Over the following weeks, your body’s own immune system gradually clears the affected fat cells through its normal waste-processing pathways — which is exactly why results are gradual rather than immediate. The fat cells are dying and being cleared on a biological timeline, not disappearing during the treatment session itself.

Why This Isn’t, and Was Never Designed to Be, a Weight-Loss Treatment

This distinction matters enough that I want to explain the actual reasoning, not just state the rule. Cryolipolysis reduces the number of fat cells in a specific, targeted area. It does not affect fat cells throughout the body, does not change your metabolism, and does not create the kind of broad caloric deficit that produces real weight loss. That’s precisely why it’s suited to stubborn, localized fat pockets that haven’t responded to diet and exercise in someone already at a stable weight — a refinement of an area, not a substitute for the systemic process weight loss actually requires.

What I correct most often:

“It’s an alternative to diet and exercise.” It isn’t, and I won’t pretend otherwise — it targets fat cells in one area, not your body’s overall fat or weight.

“Results are immediate.” They develop gradually over weeks, not overnight, because your immune system needs that time to actually clear the affected fat cells.

“One session eliminates a problem area.” Most areas genuinely need a series, not a single visit, since each session only affects a portion of the fat cells present.

Who It’s For, and Who It Isn’t

Clients at a stable, healthy weight looking to address specific stubborn areas that haven’t responded to diet and exercise — a contouring tool, not a weight-loss solution. It’s not designed for significant weight loss or for clients who are obese; it’s built for localized fat pockets in people otherwise at a stable weight. I don’t recommend it during pregnancy or with certain circulatory conditions, including cold-sensitivity disorders like cryoglobulinemia, given the treatment’s cooling mechanism.

What Getting Results Actually Looks Like

This requires a minimum of around 6 treatments for a given area, with gradual, natural-looking results over the following weeks to months — not a dramatic before-and-after moment, since the underlying process is your own immune system clearing affected cells on its own biological timeline.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the fat come back afterward? The specific fat cells cleared through this process don’t regenerate, but remaining fat cells in the area, and anywhere else on your body, can still grow with significant weight gain — this treats a fixed number of cells, not your body’s overall capacity to store fat.

Is this safe on melanin-rich skin? Yes — since the mechanism targets fat cell temperature sensitivity rather than melanin, it doesn’t carry the same pigmentation risk as heat-based or light-based treatments.

Safety and Aftercare

Mild redness, numbness, or tenderness in the treated area is normal for a short period. Staying hydrated and keeping up normal activity supports your body’s natural process afterward.
